Ready to go

By Alessandro Mascheroni February 6, 2017 Edition CHIP 2016-2017Discover Airaware project

Ciao a tutti!

It took us a long time and a lot of brainstorming and discussion with our supervisors and relevant experts to reach this final project idea.

Air pollution is a mixture of solid particles and gases in the air. It occurs when the air contains harmful amount of gases, dust, fumes and odour and it can cause diseases, allergies and death. According to a 2014 WHO report, air pollution in 2012 caused the death of around 7 million people worldwide. Hence, we started to think of a way to help people control their daily exposure to air pollution.

Therefore, the goal of our product is to let people monitor what the air they breathe contains and help them make decisions about how to protect them from air pollution.

This product is composed of two parts, one is the physical sensors, the other part is a smartphone application that communicates with a background service that will allow us to collect useful data for future statistics. We are also considering to add some air filtering function to our product to activate when the sensor indicates a high level of pollution.

So this is a brief introduction on our project, stay tuned for more updates.

Looking forward to meet you guys again in Lausanne!

Cheers!
