• This week we presented our work we have done so far. There were many things to say and that is why the presentation got longer and longer. Sorry for that.

Our conclusion from the milestone and the feedback […]

  • Hi everyone,

It’s been a while. We all had a lot of thing to do and we kind of forgot to keep you up to date. Sorry for that 🙂

A lot happened since our last post, the first milestone is already more than a week back now and you probably wondering what we presented then. Here it is, the very first design of our intelligent composter :

  • Hi everybody!

After Milestone 1, we met to debrief the feedback we obtained and thought about the following.

Globally the comments we received are encouraging. Each member of the team had the opportunity to share his feeling during the meeting and eventually provide an idea about an eventual adjustment to make to our device. As a result, one of our first ideas came back: focusing o […]

  • Hey everyone,

Sun is back, warm weather with it. But we have not time to enjoy it ! The all team is being busy to prepare the first milestone that comes on tuesday the 4th of april.

Ok maybe I lied about the not enjoy […]

  • Hi everyone,

As the days pass, we become increasingly aware of our device final functions and possibilities.

We are now building an environmental monitoring device that detects the particle level in certain time interval combined with GPS information and the timestamp, these data are temporarily stored in the device memory and will be synchronise with th […]

  • This week was a relatively calm week, principally dedicated to “branding”.

We have arrived at a point where our product, the data logger, is slowly becoming tangible and we have to start thinking about what we, as project and group, want to transmit and represent through it. This has become very clear to us lately, the more we talked with people that are active in the humanitarean sector. That’ […]

  • This week we became aware of what a project like CHIC is, with moments of doubt but also reflections and teamwork in order to find a way to cross the barriers that are on our way.

As a reminder (Right here), we explained last week that we had to pay particular attention to the siz […] 8 years, 4 months ago

The main attraction this week was the first milestone for our group. It was the first time we could gather some feedback on our progress from supervisors and CHIC alumni.

On the engineering side, we wanted to have a small demo, at least some code to communicate with our sensor. This was complicated by a delay in the order process which meant our microcontroller would show up on Tuesda […]

  •

    Hi everyone!

During this week we finally received the hardware components we ordered. So we did some preliminary test with them. The sensor model is Shinyei PPD42NS, an optical aerosol sensor based on the principle of particle light scattering. It consists of a light chamber that routes air past a light emi […]

  • G3ID is a large show room of innovative and humanitarian companies and associations. We were invited there to present our project and the challenges we are facing.  In the conference room, with around 25 persons, split in 4 groups, we did a brainstorming on the four following questions:

    • How to reinvest our benefits?
    • What business model, and who are our customers?
    • […]

  • We are in the 5th week, we have now a first sketch of an application interface, in order to manage the loggers and get the data.

We learned how to use Altium, a printed circuit CAD software . Tobia designed an antenna, and buil […]

  • The one and a half hour meeting we had scheduled this week ahead of our milestone, was not long enough to discuss all the work each one has done.

The engineers started out with their efforts they had spend on different protocols and codes to discuss about the reach of different antennas and the usefulness of certain development kits and the differences between different suppliers of hardware. A […]

  • In spite of all the work going on during the weeks, milestones are important moments in the CHIC process. They are a way to demonstrate the progress towards the development of the prototype. At the same time they […]

  • Hi everyone,

This week, after some discussion into the group, we decided to modify the database structure, and our software engineer continued coding the back-end part of our project.

After we collaborated on the inspiration board (available at this link <a href="https://amb-1.c […]

  • Hi dear CHIC community,

After a two week absence I was happy to get back to our team. I was impressed to see how our group advanced and I had clearly some catch up to do.

This week was all about our first milestone which will take place on 4th of April. We discussed together our goals for each branch and at which point there are overlaps. We want to make sure that for the parts we […]

  • This week our engineers finally picked the last remaining components! We calculated how much battery we will need, and it will be quite a challenge to make everything fit inside a wearable device. We approximated the volume of every component which allowed Dimitri to create the first renders of our product, shown here on a wrist band:

  • This is the 4th week. Following the turnaround we got last week, we thought of different concepts and configurations for our device: should it be molded? should it be encased in a metal tube with lids and threads? Each version has its own advantages and disadvantages. Eventually our designer came up with a very interesting idea: using PET preforms to encase the electronic part of the device. Those […]

  • Hey everyone!

This week we concentrated on the precise specification and working of our little pEggy. After a quick presentation by the mechanical team, we talked about the first milestone, which is coming very quickly. This week we also had a visit from Pablo who came from Lausanne to catch up with us, many thanks to him!

We took some decisions regarding the shape ! Congratulations: it’s a watch ! 👶🏻⏰ Here are a few drafts of what it could look like:
