Morning at the Skytop with InvestHK

After a packed weekend full of cultural experiences we were ready to start a new week of the CHIC. Pitches and interesting visits here we come!
The day started strong with three presentations at InvestHK which is located very centrally near Admiralty station. The presentations got us to understand the startup ecosystem in Hong Kong and what the city has to offer for emerging businesses. The speeches were very insightful towards the amount of investment in Fintech and R&D efforts in general around the area.

This feeling increased when the Science and Technology Park (HKSTP) presentation got our attention to the efforts of Hong Kong to become predominant in the area in terms of high-end research.

Earth, Air and Water: The great Hong Kong Cargo Logistics

Right after lunch we also visited the Modern Terminals facility which is a maritime logistics complex. It is a key platform for import and export in Hong Kong. We had the chance to overview 90-hectare facility as well as hearing presentations.

To further understand the sector, we visited Panalpina an air cargo company available in six continents. It was very interesting to be able to compare in one afternoon both air and sea cargo companies.

Split Into Two: Dimsum Lab + MakerBay

For the last visit of the day, the teams were divided into two to visit different maker spaces. Flowlin, Guido and Seeki went to Makerbay while Toygether and Core took the way to Dimsum Lab. Makerbay is located near Tsuen Wan station and it is socially responsible and eco-friendly makerspace. They are especially interested in projects that merge social issues with maker spirit. Even though the Makerbay had only moved to their current location only two weeks ago, we could still sense potential and the energy of the place and the staff. We felt very welcomed as local makers shared their ideas with us over a delicious meal. Meanwhile two other teams presented their projects and exchanged ideas at Dimsum Lab. Different than MakerBay, Dimsum Lab was composed of hobbyist makers. The discussions were both open and very interdisciplinary which led to interesting comments and new ideas
