Adrien Paolini wrote a new post, Last day in Hong Kong and arrival in Shenzhen 8 years, 1 month ago
After a week full of presentations and pitches, Saturday was the first day totally dedicated to sightseeing and discovery of the city. The aim was to walk through the more typical places of the city and to feel the way the people live here. Hong Kong is a very particular city; some places really look occidental whereas some others are still more traditional.
We were first divided into small tea […]

The 5 days in Hong Kong have came to an end yesterday. We had a packed program there and struggled to find time to write on the blog. However we would have lots to say as you can guess from the posts on our activities there. To sum up in a few lines, we learned and trained our pitch and had several opportunities to do it before important actors of the Hong Kong startup ecosystem. We also attended […]

Hello hello !
It’s been 3 days since we landed in this big city of Hong-Kong, and even if the days are long (and the nights getting shorter for some reason) we are still getting more and more motivated. So here what we did on Thursday and Friday.
Thursday was a very very busy day, we started by visiting the HK Science and Technology Park. T […]

Hey people,
It’s been a while again, we promised more regularity but you know how it is !
Anyway… We arrived in Hong-Kong ! After months speaking (and dreaming) about it, we’re finally here and it’s everything we dreamt of and more ! We landed on Tuesday afternoon, we headed to Hong-Kong University of Sciences and Technology (HKUST) and we took some time to visit and discover the campus. […]

After a first night where many of us had sleep problems due to jet lag, we attended a presentation by HKUST’s Dean of Students, Dr. Robert Wessling. Wessling holds a B.A. from Princeton University and a PhD from UC Berkeley. He is the former Associate Director of the Center for Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies at Stanford University. Wessling first stepp […]

It is a while since we last spoke… Since milestone four was this week on Tuesday we had our hand full to try to make the prototype work. At the end it worked partially.

Hello everyone !
After several months of research, creation, coding, welding and so on, we were able to advance our project. So, we are ready for the big start in Hong-Kong and Shenzhen.
But before we left, we participated in a Pitching training (which will be very useful during these two weeks 😉 ). We learned several techniques (e.g .: keep eye con […]

We prepared, planned, and now it’s here. Although not yet, as us girls leave a little bit before (thanks EPFL for the flexible plane dates!) to stretch out our sore keyboard muscles in Thailand before the last sprint. But now it’s real and official: we are going to Shenzhen and Hong Kong!
Looking back, there were probably many things we could […] -

For several weeks, the waterproofing of our device was a big problem. The last test in the Hydraulic Machines Lab (HML) was not successful at all and we made our PCB drown in water. Fortunately, it was not connected to the battery so it survived.
Eventually, we tried an alternative way to ensure the waterproofing (adding cyanoacrylate and SikaBond to the opening). Since the HML’s facility was […]

Hi dear Chic Community,
Since exam week is taking an end we can focus 100 % on our Peggy again 🙂
Milestone 3 on the 13th of June has again been a big step towards our goal:
Peggy has again changed its design and has now a transparent top half which allows kids to see what actually happens inside the device.

Hello there,
The project is advancing and we can see our ShuQi become more and more tangible.
For the milestone we had a fast and simple 3d print, but this weekend, Loic will print the new version. It will have the improved inner design. The material for the case will likely be ABS. We will have to perform some tests concerning the LED. The light will only gleam through the case, which there […]

Hi everybody,
We are working hard on the connectivity between the telephone and the sensor, the first iteration of the PCB and also on the first prototype for the general form of the object.
We realized that we will need to do additional iterations on both the PCB and the object to find a pleasant form that will work for our target group.

After this little break, it was time to keep you informed of what has happened in recent weeks.
To begin with, last week, we had the third and last milestone of the semester which gave us some long days ( and nights 😉) of effort before this final presentation. This was an opportunity for all team members to present the latest project progress to the CHIC […]

Today is a good day, because our PCB has arrived! Axel has worked diligently to order it as soon as possible, in order to proceed with the tests. ShuQi is one step closer to her birth.
At the milestone last week, we presented the current state of the project to our supervisors. Even though the deadline and the take off day are approaching, we stay of track with all the tasks to do. The engineer […]

Hi there 🙂
In a little bit more than one week milestone 3 is coming up. One of the main goals is to present some first complex interdisciplinary processes as for example a coin passing a sensor and the transmission of data to a connected Smartphone.
Furthermore, we would like to introduce our first prototype with the sorting and redistributing system. Therefore, our mechanical engineers ha […]
