The China trip is over.

We could enjoy the experience of  “One country, two systems”. We saw how powerful it is to create a prototype between Shenzhen and Hong-Kong.

After spending these days working on the prototype, pitching the idea to different audiences, visiting famous companies and enjoying the Chinese food. We finally get a second design for Heptabox.

We are proud of what we accomplished here and during the whole project which started in November 2018.

Today, we visited “Logistics and Supply Chain MultiTech R&D Centre” in Hong Kong. https://www.lscm.hk/eng/

This non-profit organization is active in technological research. It works closely with universities and companies in Hong Kong. We had the opportunity to discover and try some of their connected objects that are still in the research phase.

During this morning, David Leung introduced us to the company, the city of Hong Kong and its opportunities as well as the different fields of research related to technologies : Infrastructure Information Technology System, Internet-of-Things (IoT), RFID Technology,  Logistics and Supply Chain Analytics and Applications or even Financial Services & e-Commerce Technology.

We continue to discover Hong Kong thanks to the CHIC program and tonight we will present our latest pitch at Brinc.

Dear Community,

Yesterday it was our last day in Shenzhen and we had the possibility to visit two important companies: Huawei and Oppo. Such a great experience!

After two weeks our hard work, Heptabox is leaving Shenzhen with a fully functional first prototype and a second prototype realized here in China with the help of our designers. We are satisfied and proud of the progress that have been made since our arrival in Shenzhen.

We are now ready to continue our journey in Hong Kong, where we have the chance to stay at the Hong Kong Design Institute.

Please saw the completely new design of HEPTABOX!

A full designed prototype made in China with a team of designer. The new prototype is almost ready to be tested.

After arriving in China and getting some feedback about our device, our mechanical engineer is working hard with some design experts that are helping us improving the shape of our connected pill dispenser.

It finally has been decided to change the positioning of the pill box dispenser, by placing it into the base horizontally. This solution would reduce the volume of the device especially in the high, so that it takes less space and also be more discreet.

At the same time the electronic engineer is mounting and assembling the new PCB that has been delivered Saturday.

When we arrived in Huaqiangbei, the engineers of our team could not believe what they saw.

It felt like Christmas. You can find every imaginable piece of electronic for a cheap price !

We spent almost 2 hours only in the SEG Electronics Market.

It was a great experience and we better understand why so many people come to Shenzhen to build prototypes.

We have arrived in Shenzhen! We are really excited to be able to work at x.factory.

We were lucky to meet Kyle, a senior student as mechanical engineer in Southern University of Science and Technology.
We had a lot of questions for him, either about our prototype or even about Chinese culture. Kyle is very resourceful and we learned a lot from him (even to hold our chopsticks to eat).

Today we are going to HAX for our first pitch in China and we are going to continue to work on our HEPTABOX!

Hello everyone!
We are ready to go to China! Our prototype is functional and we are very happy about it! We are looking forward to improving it in China.

The whole team is really happy to have the opportunity to discover Shenzen and Hong Kong. All we have to do now is put our prototype in our luggage!

It’s time to make a second version of the prototype.

Here is the PCB V.2 with modifications and adaptations to the final product.

One week until our MS6!! And we are looking forward to finalizing the implementation between the hardware and the software.

We need to continue testing our product during the implementation but for now everything work!!

For the 16th week,  the 3D assembly is done by our awesome mechanical engineer and we finally receive the PCB with our two safety channels.

The team is working hard to develop the best solution for our potential users.

After winning the UBS innovation challenge the motivation is so big and the Heptabox’s implementation keeps going.

Hello!!

As mentioned in our last blog post, last Tuesday there was the Award Ceremony of the UBS Innovation Challenge.

All the five groups presented their project in front of the jury and the public.

At the end, the public had to vote the favorite project and with 36% of preferences we won the public award a dead heat with another group against 11% and 9%.

Finally, we are so proud to announce you that our group has not only won the audience prize, but also the first prize of the competition: one year of coaching and up to CHF 10,000 to implement the first steps of our project.

Dear readers,

Last week we had our Milestone 4 presentation.

We went through different topics. First, we presented our first pitch to the audience. In relation to the business part, we presented the positioning and brand of our device and its business model.
We also talked about data ethics. Especially, which kind of data we are thinking to collect and distribute to third parties.

Finally, we did a first demo of all the engineering part to be sure that everything is working.

We got such a great number of constructive feedback from our experts that we are going to implement in the next weeks. In particular, we will work on the data aspect.

Dear Community,

On Wednesday we had our team meeting in order to plan all the next steps of our project and ultimate the presentation for Milestone 4, which will take place on 22^nd May.

We started the planification of our trip to China, we are all very excited about it!

This Friday we had the pleasure to present our connected device and the CHIC project to the jury of the UBS Innovation Challenge: all the nominated 5 groups had 15 minutes to persuade the jury that they have the best project!

Some team members have been interviewed by the local magazine “L’illustré” which will publish an article about the UBS Innovation Challenge ‘competition next Tuesday.
The results will be announced in Concept Space+ at an official public ceremony on 28th May.

Hello everyone,

This week we had the pleasure to participate to a workshop with Swisscom in relation to IoT Systems.

We started the evening with an elevator pitch from each CHIC group. This was our first pitch experience in front of an audience.

Alexander Rusu, who is the Reasearch Director IoT, gave us several important inputs concerning communication and security in developing a connected device.

At the end of the presentation, we received a book which will help us to communicate in China…only two months to go!

Last but not least, our project has been chosen for the UBS Innovation Challenge and is one of TOP 5!
We will present our product in front of the Jury on May 17th.

Hello everyone!

During our last meeting we finally found out a name for our connected pill box that provides medicines for an entire week: Heptabox
From Ancient Greek ἑπτά (heptá) means seven which represents the seven days a week.

The business model was validated from all the team members.

The Milestone 4 will take place on 22^nd May.

Regarding the UBS Innovation Challenge, we have already edit a part of the required video.

Daniel, who is a mechanical engineering, will also work to some 3D images of our device.

Dear readers,

Several topics have been discussed during our last team meeting.

First, a part of the group will participate to the IoT Workshop which will take place on May 8^th at the Swisscom Digital Lab.

For the next weeks we have a lot of work to do. The business students, Jeanne and Stefania will work on the data ethic of our device and its Business Model.

Regarding our participation to the UBS Innovation Challenge, we will edit a video where we present the CHIC project, the team members and our amazing connected product.

Daniel, who is a mechanical engineering, will work to a 3D video presentation of our device.

Finally, we still have to make up our minds regarding the device’s name and its logo.

Hello everyone!

During our last Milestone we presented all scenarios to describe how the different users such as patients, relatives and the health staff will interact with our device.

In order to manage the data flow and to ensure the communication between the users and our device we decide to deploy LoRa which is a long-range wireless communication protocol.

In relation to the mechanical part, there will be a compartment that will open the right spot at the right time and therefore will distribute the pills and patient can take them.

We received a lot of feedback from our supervisors and we are going to work on it for the next weeks.

Next step is also to conduct some interviews with some patients to validate our MVP also from their points of view a get others input to improve our first prototype.

Dear CHIC Community,

For our last team meeting, the business students conducted some interviews with some early adaptors such as pharmacists and patients. We are going to present the results during the MS3 presentation.

Some engineering students will do a sum up of the software that we are going to use for our device.
We are still working on the mechanical part.

We decided that our device will have some icons that will show the distribution of the pills, something that will confirm that the pills have been taken from the user and finally, if there is some technical problem with the device.

We defined who is going to do what for MS3 presentation next week. As well as this, we choose which issues we are going to present for MS4 that will take place during the month of May.

Dear readers,

We are getting ready for Milestone 3 which will take place on April 2.

This week we agreed on the design of the prototype and on the distribution of the drugs.

We decided that our first prototype will have removable compartments that will rotate. To be sure that the pills are taken by the right person, every compartment has magnets that will open the box when the patient needs to take its medicines.

We defined also that our device will not be removable but transportable. For this reason, we have to take into consideration the size and the weight to make the pill dispenser as easy as possible to carry anywhere.

Regarding the charge, we decided to have an electrical support on the base (as a kettle) to recharge the pill dispenser. In this way, the patient does not need to unplug the device to take it anywhere.

Dear CHIC Community,

During our last meeting all the team members approved the functional requirements for our connected pill dispenser.

We also decided to prioritize the different features in order to build or final MVP.

In order to get ready for Milestone 3 and 4 we defined a detailed plan for the next weeks. Every member has the opportunity to contribute to the success of our project.

Our idea is gently taking shape, we can not wait to tell you more about it!

Yesterday we had our Milestone 1 presentation.
The aim was to provide to our supervisors an overview of the work accomplished since the beginning of the project.

We went through different topics. First, we presented the method that we used in order to find our problem statement. We also talked about how we defined our opportunity space, why and how we conducted some interviews and the outcomes. Finally, we provided our two problem statements.

We had such a great number of constructive feedbacks from our experts.

We are looking for our next meetings in order to work on both problem statements. Next step is to organize some observations in both field, nutrition and therapy monitoring. This will help us to focus our attention only on one of them.

Now is time to action, is time to solutions!

Let’s give you an update about our today 4th meeting.

During this session the team discussed about the different “How might we..” that every member prepared.

After a first selection, the team opted for 2 propositions out of 4:

First, we defined the following spaces:
– Physical: Kitchen
– Human: Individual
– Data: Food

For the second one, we have completely other spaces:
– Physical: Home
– Human: Individual
– Data: Medication

Our idea is to do a first observation for both of them in order to choose our final problem statement.

The next step is to finalize the report and presentation for Milestone 1.

Last week we defined our opportunity space: the health system in Switzerland.

During our third meeting the team discussed about the interview that each member conducted with several people from the health domain but also some individuals.

This exchange helped us to target different spaces:

We got really great choices, but we still have to make up our minds.

In order to have some options, everyone has to make three “How might we” with different personas for the next meeting.

Then, we will choose one of them and we will ultimate our report and presentation for Milestone 1. Due date is 20^th December.

Hello everyone!

Today we had our second team meeting to define our opportunity space.

We choose to focus our attention to the health system in Switzerland.

In order to define our human, physical and data space we prepared a general survey which will help us during our personal interviews.

Every member will conduct various interviews with several people who work in the health domain, such as nurses or doctors. On the other side, we will consider also the point of view of individuals.

The aim is to have a global picture for next week which will help us to target the different spaces and define our problem statement.

We are getting every week more closer and we are looking forward to keeping you updated on our progress!
